Why Tapping Works
You mean like the time we melted an engine?
Tony and I have a saying, “See It as Perfect”, it’s not
just a saying, it’s something we try and live by… as often as we can
remember to. What it means is that when you want a particular outcome,
simply, get a really clear image of the end result you’re after, hold it
in your mind for a few seconds and then let it go. When we started the
practice of doing this, it was shocking to both of us how little time you
actually spend picturing things going the way you want them to and how
much time you spend picturing things going wrong!
Keep in mind, your brain is wired to protect you against
harm. So picturing the negative is something you are wired for, there is
nothing wrong with that. It doesn’t make you a pessimist or a negative person,
but what does make the difference, is the person that acknowledges the risk or
negative to a situation and then just as quickly sees the good in it and the
action they choose to take as a result of it. The difference between a positive
or negative attitude isn’t that you have the bad thought; it’s how long you
choose to dwell on it. Note I used the word “choose”, you choose your mental
state, all day long, by what you choose to think about and the perspective you
choose to hold and you make decisions and take action based on the perspective
you hold.
You create your own reality because your reality is simply your perspective on
the world around you.
Remember… You are always right, because your perspective is
the only one you can hold. If you believe you are Fat, it doesn’t matter
whether you weigh 100 or 400 pounds; your perspective is that you are Fat. If
you cannot remain open minded to seeing yourself as skinny, then it’s impossible
to ever be skinny, at least in your mind’s eye.
So how does seeing it perfect work? I’ll use exercise as an
example, because that’s what I do best! When I participate in an important
race, I take a moment to create an image of the end result. If you were
training for a race here’s what I would encourage you to add to your training
program: Picture yourself coming across the finish line and the emotion you
would like to experience at that time. Get a good picture of yourself doing
that, if you want family and friends, there, then picture them cheering for
you. Now tie that picture to the emotion that you want to experience, in other
words, If you would like to feel proud of yourself and full of energy and
refreshed as you cross the finish line, picture that. What will you be saying
to yourself as you cross? “I knew I could do it” or “that was easier then I
expected”. Tie all that together in a quick little snap shot. And now you’ve
done it, you’ve “pictured it perfect”. Now just relax and let it go. You no
longer have to keep the picture running in your mind, you don’t have to add to
it or think about it anymore. But what I do want you to do is notice how often
your mind wanders and daydreams about things going wrong. When that happens,
just release the thought and note to yourself that you have already “pictured it
perfect” and there is no reason to worry, you’ve set your intention in motion,
now it’s up to the universe to make it happen.
Now here’s the crazy part, there can be no strings attached.
What you pictured, is the end result, how you get there is no longer in your
hands. You have to let that part go. Let me tell you a story of how Tony and I
melted an engine. We were flying from St. Maarten to LA with a change of plane
in Fort Lauderdale and were scheduled to arrive home at 10:00pm. As usual we
were re-routed due to bad weather and had to land in Fort Meyers, to refuel,
which meant we were going to miss our connecting flight in Fort Lauderdale. We
were so bummed, because we really wanted to get home. So we started “Seeing it
as perfect”. We took a couple minutes to each visualize landing safely and
happily in L.A. by midnight that night. And then we just let it go. No strings
attached, I didn’t care how it happened, just end up in L.A. safe and happy,
today. Really long story short we made it because the plane we were supposed to
catch in Fort Lauderdale had something fly into one of the engines and melt,
before it could take off. And while it posed no threat to anyone on board, the
smell was so bad that they had to de-board all the passengers from the plane and
clean it so that the stench could dissipate. While all this was going on Tony
and I had no idea, we just kept going through security and customs as if we were
still going to get on our plane, knowing full well, it should have already taken
off. But guess what? When we finally ran up to the gate, they were just
beginning to re-board the plane. WE made it. And we have done this kind of
thing over and over again.
Is it because we’re special or magic? No I believe this is
how it works, set your intention of what you truly want the end result to be and
your brain and the powers that be will listen to your command and make it
happen. Don’t believe me? That’s ok, that means you’re right, remember. But
just go ahead and try it anyway.
This is different then visualization, which is also very
important. Visualization is more detailed and thorough. Almost like an exercise
for your brain. For instance when I competed in the Ironman, I spent many
training days visualizing the entire day, step by step. How it would go, going
through my transitions in my head, everything. Visualization is picturing
yourself going through the motions so that when the time comes you can be on
automatic pilot. And for what it’s worth my Ironman experience was nothing like
I had visualized. But it did end perfectly, I crossed the finish line with the
exact emotion I wanted, surrounded by my family, feeling proud and loved and
actually much happier then I would have been if it had gone how I had
visualized.
When you get good at “Seeing it perfect”, it’s so fun to watch how it will
unfold. Because you just let go of the struggle and something else takes over
to bring all the strings together to create your perfect ending, all you have to
do is stay out of the way, with your negative thoughts.
This process is just about the end result. It’s quick. It takes only seconds
and you can do it on absolutely anything, you just have to get clear, in your
heart and mind, about what it is you actually want the end result to be. It’s
extremely eye opening, to me, to see that sometimes, you tell yourself you want
one thing but when you picture it, you realize you were enjoying the struggle of
not having it.
So start picturing the outcome you want. And catch yourself
as you throw road blocks into your own way.
We kept acting as if we were going to make our flight, even
when the clock told us we were out of our minds. If we had stopped bothering to
hurry through customs and security and not run to the gate, believing there was
a chance, we would have missed the flight! Get it? It came down to our
belief. Had we believed that we had missed the flight, we would have been
right… But because we held onto our belief that it was possible. We made the
flight. You create your reality that you experience!
Explain it to me like I am a 5 year old
If you’re saying, “I still don’t get it” or “I think I get it
but I want to make sure I’m doing this 100% correctly!” Then here are some
scenarios which might help you to see how “17 seconds” works and how you can
use, the practice of, “Seeing it Perfect” in every area of your life.
“Seeing it Perfect” is about focusing on your desired outcome,
getting a really clear “snap shot” of how you will look and feel at the end,
once you have arrived at your goal. Then expressing that feeling or emotion
like a musical tuning fork for 17 seconds
The 17 Seconds Tuning Fork Principle: The Tuning Fork
Principle works like this: When you tap a tuning fork it begins to vibrate and
make humming sounds, sending out vibrations of specific pitch through the air
around it. If another tuning fork is placed nearby and calibrated to the same
note, the second fork will begin to hum and vibrate in harmony with the first
one.
You also act as a tuning fork. While the pitch/tune you send is invisible and,
unlike a tuning fork, it is silent to the ear, you DO calibrate your minds and
thinking to specific vibrations, and those vibrations search for matching tunes
in other people.
You do this both consciously and unconsciously, and send those
vibrations all the time. The tunes are silent, invisible signals that flow
through the air around us and vibrate in harmony with similar forks (people) are
tuned in a similar way.
This is a very profound concept with life changing
potential!
You have the choice what signal you want to send, and the
signals are thoughts, attitudes, and behavior patterns.
It’s also about focusing your attention. Do you remember going
to the fair as a kid and seeing the game where you shoot the water, into the
clown’s mouth, with a toy gun? You sit on a little stool and prop your elbows
up, on the bar and grab your toy water gun. The goal is, to aim your water just
right, so that you hit the bullseye and the better “shot” you are, the faster
your balloon will blow up or horse will run or whatever that particular game
was? Well there is a secret to the game that will make you win every time.
Never, Never, Never, take your eye off of the bullseye, not even for a second,
not even long enough to glance up to see if your balloon or horse is winning.
That’s the key, don’t even so much as shift your gaze off of the bullseye until
somebody else has told you, that you have won and, the game is over.
In that quick game even a moment of unfocused thought will
cause you to lose. Luckily life isn’t usually that strict but it is necessary
that your thoughts remain focused, on the exact outcome you’re after, at least
the majority of the time. 17 seconds is here to remind you to stay focused.
That is the purpose of the service to keep you on track, when you may have
forgotten and to teach you to make “Seeing it as Perfect” an absolute habit!
When Tony was very young, he was a pretty good little
athlete. He remembers a shift though, when he went from being the “star player”
to just “OK”. It didn’t dawn on him, until he was much older, what actually
transpired. During a foot ball game he had an uncanny ability to do what they
call “find the hole”. He was able to make plays happen that everybody else had
given up on. If he was thrown the ball, he could carry into the end zone, as if
he was the only one on the field. As a kid he naturally, just focused on the
outcome, he wanted, and made it happen. He didn’t look at the defenders coming
at him, trying to tackle him; he looked at the end zone. It didn’t even cross
his mind to focus on them, after all his goal was the endzone.
He looked at the end result, focused on it, and made it
happen. By focusing, that way, he was able to see where the defenders were not
and find opportunities to make a play that other people failed to see. They
didn’t see all the options that were available because they were focusing on the
people and not the holes. If he focused on the people coming to tackle him then
he would have ran right into them and been tackled. But he never allowed himself
to look at anything but the end result, he was after. As he got a little older
that natural ability fell away a little bit and he thought he lost it until one
day he realized what had changed. He had shifted his focus.
Have you ever been Mountain bike riding? If you have been, I
think you’ll get this one, all too clearly. Sometimes you’ll get going fast on
the bike and you feel like you’re just on the brink of being out of control and
then you spot a rock or something in your path that you definitely want to
avoid! Well the way to avoid the item successfully is to shift your attention
away from it. It will seem counter-intuitive because everything in your body is
telling you that you better keep staring at that rock, so that you can avoid it,
but that’s exactly what you don’t want to do! You have to focus on the clear
path on the other side of the rock. If you look at the rock you will hit the
rock, Period, end of story. If you look past it and picture yourself riding,
you will miss it. Why because the small micro movements that your body will
have to make to miss that rock can not be made if you are staring at it. You’re
giving yourself the direct command to run right into it, if you continue to
stare at it. But by picturing yourself on the clear path at the other side of
it your body will be able to make the adjustments it needs to, to get you to
your goal, of safe, happy riding.
Or have you been on the freeway when something has flown off
of somebody’s truck and into your lane, Very, scary right? You only have
seconds to respond. So what do you focus on? Well if you got out of that
incident unscathed then I will guess that you probably focused on all of the
clear space around you, all the areas where the object was not and you pictured
yourself safely and happily, getting home. If, on the other hand, you got in an
accident or had your car damaged, then you probably did a really good job of
keeping your eye on the item in the road. Again it will go against every fiber
of your being not to look at the thing in the road, but you must, to avoid it.
You must look at where you want to be.
I’m not psychic, but I can tell you what “Sully” Sullenberger,
the pilot that safely landed the jumbo jet in the Hudson River, was thinking as
the plane was going down.
He was Picturing it Perfect! How do I know that? Because you
cannot accomplish a feat of that magnitude while focusing on everything that is
going wrong. Yes, you will notice the things that are going wrong but your
focus has to remain on exactly what your desired outcome is and apparently his
desired outcome was very clear that day. Keeping everyone on the plane alive
and landing perfectly.
That’s also a good example of what we mean by, you can have
“no strings attached”. In the practice of “See It As Perfect” you only focus on
the outcome. Exactly how it’s going to happen, is not up to you. Had “Sully”
been stubborn and held the thought “I’m going to land at Heathrow Airport”, they
would have all died. The plane would not have been able to make it to any
airport, but he didn’t. He just held the thought I’m going to land this plane
safely. His true desired result was to land safely, that’s all, he focused and
an opportunity presented itself
So you must learn to be clear with your request and clear with yourself about
what it is you actually want. If you’ve been asking for $100,000.00 dollars, all
you have been doing, up until now, is wanting money, Why? What is the end
result that you are going to get from that money? What emotion is it you’re
looking for? Is it peace of mind that your bills are paid easily? Then, what
you would picture during your “17 seconds” is a feeling of peace, taking a deep
breath and smiling as you look at your bank statement, writing a check with a
smile on your face and gratitude in your heart because you know it’s covered..
Do you see the difference, picturing money, has no emotion to
it, It’s paper.
Or were you going to use that money to pay for your child’s
college tuition? Then your end result is your child’s college education. So if
they end up with a scholarship, then your end result was met. You would “See it
as Perfect” by picturing yourself at their graduation, smiling a huge grin,
tears streaming from your eyes. Your heart welling with pride. That’s what
you’re after, is the emotion of pride and comfort in knowing that you have given
your child every opportunity in life.
Do you see how much more emotion is involved in the true clear
“see it as perfect” scenarios as opposed to just wanting money?
Let’s say its still cold hard cash you want, ok then remember
it’s no strings attached, so if you find a penny. You better start
congratulating yourself for doing it right! No strings attached! Cash is cash,
the emotion of gratitude is a strong emotion and feeling that emotion as often
as possible will help to reinforce your ability to make this happen. If you
negate the penny on the ground and say “that’s not enough” it doesn’t count.
What emotion are you reinforcing? “Feeling of lack, it’s never enough” That’s
what you’ll get more of. Reach down pick up that penny and kiss it! You just
created that opportunity, practicing receiving money.
Check in with yourself and make sure your “See it as Perfect”
scenario isn’t your ego, trying to prove something. There’s nothing wrong with
practicing with your new tool but those are weak emotions. So don’t be
surprised if you have a really hard time.
We use this practice everyday, it’s become so much a part of
our lives, it’s rare that we aren’t doing it, but here are a few, cut and dry,
times where you can see how it worked:
**We were on a wonderful vacation in the Caribbean and had
just gotten a ride from our boat on to an island on a dinghy, on the way back,
to our boat the dinghy’s motor died. It was no big deal we could see our boat
it just was an inconvenience and would have been quiet a swim. Tony and I both
just calmly started “seeing it as perfect” as the Captain kept working on the
motor. We both pictured the motor starting back up and most importantly us all
back on the boat and happy. Seconds later another dingy came by and offered to
tow us and just as they threw him a rope and started tugging, our motor
started. Saved twice!
**I notice it a lot when I’m working with my dogs training
them or just walking them on a leash. If they’re “acting up”, I can usually
catch myself picturing them “acting up”. Dogs are very sensitive; if I’m
sending out a signal of them “acting like banshees” then guess what they’re
going to do? If I correct my picture of them, they immediately respond.
**We moved to Florida for a short while and were shocked at
how different purchasing a house is there then it is in California. The
purchase ended up taking a lot longer then we had planned on and we ended up
moving across the country without owning the house, so when we arrived with our
2 cars and 2 dogs and our moving trucks just days behind us with all of our
furniture, we had no where to go. It became Tony’s single minded mission to get
us into the house we did not own yet.
As we pulled into town, I went to the house and waited and he
went to the escrow office (which are attorney’s there). Within a couple hours
he was back at the house with the keys. Guess what he did? He saw it as perfect
he focused on the only outcome he would accept. Us sleeping in that house that
evening. We moved into and lived there for 2 weeks before it was actually
finalized. We even replaced the carpeting in the house before we owned it,
that’s how much faith we have in the process. It works!
** Have you ever had to go to a city, county or state
government office to get a permit? Then you know that can be a frustrating
affair. Anytime we have a situation like that we take a moment to “See it as
Perfect”. We don’t brace ourselves for a painstaking process; we release our
own hang-ups, see it going smoothly and then walk in the door. Works every time
(even at the DMV)!
Are you starting to see how this works? The clearer you can
be with yourself and the more focused you can remain, the faster it will
happen. Look for small clues that it’s working and show huge amounts of
gratitude when it does. Seriously! Throw a party when you find a penny if,
you’ve been asking for more cash.
You are constantly sending out vibrations, you are always
emitting energy. Do you ever stop having thoughts? Do you ever stop thinking?
Because you are always thinking you are always sending out the vibration of
those thoughts. You are constantly, 100% of the time, telling the universe what
to send you, with what you have believed, up until now, were just random, and
innocuous thoughts. If you are constantly allowing yourself to focus on the
negative, then where is your water gun shooting? With the text message
reminders we’re trying to snap you out of that and remind you to focus on your
desired outcome. Set your intention and sit back and watch how it unfolds,
beautifully.
-
The Principal of Surrender:
At some point you will surrender to the thoughts and feelings of “seeing it as perfect” or “seeing it go wrong”. That is a choice you make in everything you do. Choose to see it as perfect!
-
Absolutely Everything has a Power Source:
We have established that there is life force energy – Yin/Yang – represented in the physical world by electromagnetic field energy and at the quantum level by electron spin characteristics.
-
The Principal of Perpetual Transmutation-:
Energy moves into physical form … The images you hold in your mind and the feelings/emotions you experience with them are now manifesting as coincidences in your life.
-
The Principal of Vibration or Change:
Everything vibrates, everything is constantly moving, nothing rests….. You are consciously aware of your vibrations when you recognize that your feelings and emotions are constantly changing. You can change the rate at which you are vibrating and your interpretation of that vibration (reality) with one simple action FEEL GOOD NOW!
-
The Principal of Relativity:
Nothing is good or bad, big or small… until you RELATE it to something …. You can always compare or relate your situation to something much worse and yours will always look good. This way you can always be right
-
The
Principal of Polarity:
Everything has an opposite: Male – Female …. Hot – Cold … Up – Down … Good – Bad….. within each situation that you are currently experiencing lies the possibility as well as the ability to experience the polar opposite, and opposites are the same, differing only in degree. Example: Look at your thermometer and see if you can discover where “heat” terminates and “cold” begins! There is no such thing as “absolute heat” or “absolute cold” the two terms “heat” and “cold” simply indicate varying degrees of the same thing. Your story and their story are both correct, it just depends on the perspective you hold.
-
The Principal of Cause and Effect:
Whatever you send into the Universe comes back. Action — re-action are equal and opposite…. How you feel about yourself is the cause, the effect will appear in your life through the circumstances that you find yourself in and how your family, friends and associates treat you.
-
The Principal of Rhythm:
The tide goes out … the tide comes in ….Winter….Spring…Summer…Fall. There is a natural rhythm to everything and every situation in life. What are the emotions/feelings that you are giving out to the people and situations you are currently experiencing because the tide of those emotions/feelings is already returning! It doesn’t matter whether you like the result or not.
-
The
Principal of Resonance: In other words, you can’t expect to send out a frequency of fear and expect to draw to you something that you love. Emotions of fear, apathy, grief, anger, and anxiety emit a much different resonance or vibrational output than those emotions of love, joy, gratitude etc. just as tuning to 96.9 FM emits and as a result attracts a different outcome or frequency than 104.7 FM on your radio dial. The experiences that you are having now are in complete resonance with your current feelings or emotional vibrations.
FEEL GOOD NOW!
-
The Principal of Gestation:
Every seed has a gestation or incubation period. A natural human pregnancy takes nine months, a turkey takes 28 days, roses take 45 to 60 days to bloom. Feelings are spiritual seeds and will move into form or physical results based upon their gestation periods.
-
The Principal of Nowhere:
The only time that actually exists is now right at this very moment. Any thoughts that you have that are not about this moment are either in the future or the past which only exist in your mind. Coincidentally you are location wise where you are right now because you would rather be there then any place else in the universe.
